I thought it would be a fun idea to get away from the typical blog posts about dust collection and fume extraction and instead provide a brief overview of the history of my little company based here in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
The start . . .
I started company in the spring of 2014. I had spent a number of years in the torque tool business, selling the Atlas Copco line of products while with Ten-West Torque & Tool. The work was immensely rewarding, and the experience extraordinary, yet it was time for me to venture out on my own and start something a bit unique.
The idea was to create an amalgam of the conventional full-line industrial supply company with a “specialty firm” tasked with servicing the industrial automation and assembly space. Hence the strange name. It was considered prudent to select a name that wouldn’t pigeon-hole the company. Redhook just seemed generic enough to allow for quick pivots as market conditions changed, and new opportunities presented themselves.
Oddly enough, the name is derived from a New York neighbourhood some 810 kilometers away.
In the pursuit of this goal, the company partnered with a variety of companies. The main product groups included abrasives, automatic screwdrivers, conveyors, flexible control cables, fume & dust extraction systems, hand files, jib crane installation, precision hand tools & torque analyzers, part marking systems, vacuum tube lifters, vibratory bowl feeders, and wire.
And now . . .
Our most recent pivot was to focus the company almost exclusively on providing Clean Air Solutions. Our two main partners in this endeavor are Nederman & AAF Flanders, with new partners being added in the coming years. Any additions will have to dovetail nicely with our current offering, be complimentary while not being in direct competition with our current vendor base, and help us to better serve our customers. If you know of an organization that you feel would be a benefit to us in this regards please let us know.
If you are a current customer of ours, please accept my gratitude for the business you’ve sent our way. If you’re new to Redhook please let us know how we can be of service. We’re here to help.
